Google +? Anyone know about this?

Hello everyone,

Yesterday my kids were talking about "hanging out" on google +.  Apparently this is a video chat application much like Skype; however, it's possible for up to 10 people to be on line together.  Unlike Skype, no one would need a "premium" account.  It's free.  I see that many of our group members have google accounts, so I'm wondering if this program might be a better option for us to have online video conferencing.

Has anyone used this?  I want to learn more about this from someone who has some experience with it.  Please let me know.

In order for this to work, everyone involved would need a google account.  (Anyone who doesn't have one already may roll your eyes:  "another account!?")  But remember, we all would need Skype accounts for that to work.  The advantage to a google account is that it will make it possible for us to seamlessly share photos through Picasa, videos through YouTube, and documents through Google Docs (soon to become "google drive") -- and google is connected to blogger, which is the host service for our blog.

An update:  I have heard from almost everyone in the group regarding interest levels in the blog, phone buddies, "skype-type" meetings, etc.  In a few days, I'll be sending out proposed schedules for these things. My goal is to revise the schedules and get started the week of September 10.  If you haven't responded to the Survey Monkey, there's still time.

In the mean time, anyone can add stuff to the blog.  By the way, traffic is up considerably since July, so it looks like this tool will work quite well as a center for our interaction.

Thanks,

Rob

  1. I haven't used it personally, but my friends have and really love it, I think it's worth trying, if nothing else for being able to share things through google docs (which I love! =) )

Hope everyone's year is off to a good start, tomorrow ends week 1 for me! Can't wait to hear how it's going for everyone =)
