Some canons...

Hello Rachel and all,

I checked the World Around Songs website and it looks like they're not carrying the SACRED CANONS book anymore. Rats! I also looked at the index for the 101 ROUNDS FOR SINGING and it doesn't duplicate very many from the SACRED CANONS list...

Some of my favorites from the Sacred Canons book are:
"Singt dem Herren" by M. Praetorius
"Laudate Nomen Domini" from Pammelia collection (T. Ravencroft, ed.)
"Non Nobis Domine" by Will. Byrd (excellent 3 part with one part transposed a 4th lower. It's very cool.)
"Dona Nobis Pacem" - traditional
"Jubilate Deo" by M. Praetorius (very simple)
"Vesper Round" - Russian
"Glory, Laud and Honor" (Preis und Lob)by Ludwig Gebhardi

I don't know of another resource, but I'll keep looking through my books. All on the list are in the public domain since they're so old.

More later. -mh

  1. Rachel, I've done these rounds, and have to say that...

Jubilate Deo works GREAT for middle school girls/ unchanged boys (octave range)

Non Nobis is PERFECT for 8th grade chorus- it's the range of a 5th and can be done in 4 parts

Dona Nobis Pacem was a great success with our 6th grade chorus this year-- they learned it on solfege, and with vowel hand signs.

Can't wait to look up the others!
